Qatar Minister of Education and Higher Education H.E. Dr Mohammed Abdul Wahed Al Hammadi yesterday honored the launch ceremony of the 10th Annual Sponsorship & Internship Career Forum organized by Qatar University Career Services Center (QU-CSC). Headlined “Here I Start”, the forum aimed to give students a platform to meet and communicate with potential employers on employment and training opportunities. H.E. Al Hammadi was joined by QU president Dr Hassan Rashid Al Derham, QU VP and Chief Financial Officer Dr Humaid Al Midfaa, QU VP for Student Affairs Dr Khalid Al-Khanji, as well as Ministry officials, and QU faculty, students and staff.
Sixty (60) leading governmental and private organizations participated in the 4-day forum (March 14-15 for women, March 16-17 for men). They provided high-school and university students with information on the needs of the labor market and their expectations. In his remarks, Minister Al Hammadi expressed his pride in Qatar University -- Qatar’s national university -- for hosting the 10th edition of the Forum, noting that the event brings together students and employees from various ministries and institutions and showcases a wide range of professional opportunities for students and helps towards the achievement of their ambitions and aspirations.
He also highlighted the participating organizations’ pivotal role in supporting and sponsoring national students during their academic journey, offering them appropriate jobs after graduation as well as training opportunities that enable them to acquire the necessary skills. “This contributes to building national capacities and to advancing investment in human and knowledge capital, in line with the needs of the labor market and the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030,” he said.
Dr Al Derham said: “The forum aims to help students get a clear vision of their professional life as they plan for their future. Through their interaction with representatives of institutions from various sectors, they will be able to develop a strong relationship with prospective employers, and become better acquainted with the needs of the labor market. The forum also contributes to offering high-school students a comprehensive picture of QU programs, and to help them choose their specialization, in line with their aspirations and the needs of the labor market.”
CSC director Ms Maha Al-Marri said: “This annual forum highlights QU’s commitment to providing the local labor market with qualified and skilled students. It also reflects the organization’s responsibility to serve the needs of the community. The Center is well-placed to host this event which provides our students with internship and training opportunities that prepare them for the world of work. We hope that our students benefit from these interactions to reach their career goals.”
