QU and HBJ Foundation sign collaborative agreement

Qatar University (QU) and Jassim and Hamad bin Jassim Charitable Foundation (HBJ Foundation) yesterday signed a collaborative agreement to cooperate on financial aids, volunteerism and community services, and social initiatives, projects and programs. The agreement was signed by QU VP for Student Affairs Dr. Khalid Al-Khanji and HBJ Foundation Director of Support Services Mr. Fawaz Al Shammari in the presence of officials from both institutions.

The terms of the agreement include collaboration between QU and HBJ Foundation to spread volunteering values among youth and expand their perspective of good to include all aspects of development. Both parties will collaborate to create opportunities for youth to experience the volunteering work at home and abroad as a real temporary work and as part of living the reality of humanitarian work, and to raise the university enrollment rate and improve the level of educational achievement for the students who suffer from financial difficulties.

Other areas of collaboration include the organization of social initiatives, projects and programs in coordination and communication with QU Volunteerism and Community Service Center. In his remarks, Dr Khalid Al-Khanji said: “QU continues in its efforts to establish collaboration with various institutions within the society. Through this agreement, QU and HBJ Foundation will provide QU students with the support to work and lead volunteering activities in Qatar and beyond. This agreement also underlines QU’s commitment to offer its students the best learning environment to unlock their potential and achieve success.”

HBJ Foundation Chairman H.E. Sheikh Nawaf Bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani said: “This agreement with Qatar University, the prestigious national educational institution, fulfills the Foundation’s mission and vision to create a society that builds itself on the basis of knowledge and complements its tireless efforts to support and develop the educational process in various stages to continue the unlimited efforts of the State of Qatar in this regard, and to complete educational projects aimed at serving young people in need.”

Mr. Fawaz Al Shammari said: “This agreement will include a proposal to prepare a program aimed at rewarding outstanding Qatari students with low income to motivate them to exert more effort and excel, and to assist them in providing their financial needs.”
