QU ranked #77 in the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2017

Qatar University (QU) has been ranked 77 in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2017, among the 300 top universities in the Asia region.

The announcement was made on March 15 on the THE website, naming QU 77th among universities in the Asia region and 5th among universities in the Arab world. This achievement highlights QU’s continuous efforts to advance its standing among the top universities in the Asia region as the University was placed in the range of 121-130 most highly ranked universities for the 2016 edition.

In calculating the top universities in Asia, the THE Asia University Rankings 2017 use the same 13 performance indicators as the THE World University Rankings, but they are recalibrated to reflect the attributes of Asia’s institutions, and to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons trusted by students, academics, university leaders, industry and governments. The performance indicators are grouped into five areas: Teaching -- the learning environment (25%), Research -- volume, income and reputation (30%), Citations -- research influence (30%), International Outlook -- staff, students and research (7.5%), and Industry Income -- knowledge transfer (7.5%).

Commenting on the achievement, QU President Dr Hassan Al Derham said: “Being ranked 77th among the top 300 universities in the Asia region is an important milestone to QU as it shows the University’s continuous improvement in its regional and international standing. This achievement highlights QU’s positioning as a key partner of higher education and research excellence in Qatar and the region. It also demonstrates the University’s commitment to providing high-quality academic and research outcomes, and to producing highly skilled professionals who will meet the needs of the local and regional labor market. We look forward to consistently advancing our positioning among the top regional and international universities.”
