QU celebrates high-achieving students

276 distinguished students at Qatar University (QU) were celebrated in a ceremony at the Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel on July 29, receiving awards for their academic and non-academic achievements for the academic year 2015-2016.

The ceremony was led by QU President Dr Hassan Rashid Al Derham, and included QU Vice President for Student Affairs Dr Khalid Al-Khanji, QU VPs and associate VPs, deans, assistant deans, heads of department, faculty, and students and their families.

Of the 276 students, 264 were recognized in the Academic Awards category for achieving a high GPA of 3.5 and above (see attached list), while 12 students from the colleges of Arts and Sciences (CAS), Business and Economics (CBE), Engineering (CENG), and Law (LAWC) received Student Life Awards for their distinguished accomplishments in leadership, student clubs and organizations, volunteerism, athletics, and employment.

They were Ahmad NoohAl-Thani (LAWC), Ebrahim Ali Al Kowari and Shouq Abdullah Shaheen (CAS) -- leadership; Mohamad Hakim Shalal, Omer Ahmad Al Jumaily and HamdaAbdulamirAl-Khamis (CAS) -- student clubs and organizations; Sara Tariq Abdurhman (CENG) and Sara Wali Mohammad (CAS) -- volunteerism; Khaled Ibrahim Shamiyeh (CENG) and Dana YahyaAl-Madhoun (CAS) -- athletics; and Khalid Mohamed Alshibli (CBE) and Sarah Ahmad Salmeh (CAS) -- employment.

Dr Al Derham said: “I extend my congratulations to all of you -- our excellent students -- for your distinguished achievement. This is the first step to further successes in your personal and professional life.” He also thanked parents and faculty members for their support throughout the students’ academic journey. “Your contribution to their success is invaluable,” he said. He added: “Since its inception, QU has achieved a number of rankings successes. This is a testament of the organization’s ongoing commitment to providing excellent academic outcomes and to producing competent and highly skilled graduates for the labor market.”

Dr Al-Khanji said: “We are very proud of our students’ achievement which is the result of their hard work, dedication, commitment and volunteering spirit. We are confident that they will be very successful in their professional and personal life and become the role models for the young ones following in their footsteps. Congratulations and very best wishes for what I am sure will be bright futures for all of you.”
